PLACE TO BE
A place of sorrow , transformation and utopia
Brammen / Kerschkewicz / Levits / plastiq / Rotteveel
In our artistic interpretation of the a self-burial ritual, the aesthetic experience is in the foreground - not the experience of one's own death. Together with the spectators we would like to embark on a journey through light, music and the architecture of space, listening to reports of territorial and personal border crossings. A mental journey to a destinct, unknown place. Especially in western societies, this
experience is more often associated with exciting long distance journeys than with the journey to the hereafter. And this experience is where our idea of the ritual comes in. While some travellers fly Last Minute to Morocco, others are not allowed to land in Europe. But despite of the freedom to travel and other numerous privileges, there is no satisfaction and calmness in the western world.
Instead western societies suffer from pressure to perform, identity standardization, burnout, depression .....
